I once had to give a speech about one characteristic that defined me. What did I choose to talk about? Smiling.
I know everyone smiles, but I like to think that I smile more often than not. So why am I so smiley? ... because of a story I read about four years ago...
There was a man who hated his life so much that he became suicidal. One day he decided that if, by the end of the day, no one acknowledged his presence, he was going to kill himself. So he sat on a busy sidewalk in the middle of a city ( I like to imagine it was New York City) and waited as people stormed past him during morning rush hour. Not one person noticed him.
Some time in the middle of the day, a young woman smiled at him in passing. The next day he waited on that same street all day, hoping to see the woman again. He finally saw her, stopped her, and told her that she saved his life with a smile.
Ever since I read that story, the idea that a smile can save someone's life has developed into one of my life philosophies.
And because of this, I have decided to start this blog. I want to make at least one person smile everyday by sharing the little details in life that I constantly notice, yet are often forgotten or neglected. And I want you to share your thoughts with me.
Here's your first chance to do so... Has something, as common as a smile or a story, changed your life?
